Home » About Me
I’m a mom, wife, educator, and advocate. Mom, What Did You Make? began as a space to share my family’s favorite Dominican recipes. The name of this blog was inspired by a question my eldest son, Liam, asked me every single day when he got home from school: “Mom, what did you make?” His eagerness to see what I had cooked for dinner when he arrived home from school always brought me great joy. His excitement for home-cooked meals motivated me to cook daily, even when I felt exhausted.
I moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic when I was just five years old, and it’s always been important to me that my boys stay connected to their heritage. Food has been one of the most meaningful ways to keep our culture alive in our home. My son definitely inherited my taste palate, if you gave him the choice between a hamburger and a plate of mangú with eggs, he’d choose the mangú every single time.
Cooking has always been my creative outlet. I don’t have formal culinary training, but I genuinely love exploring different techniques, both traditional and modern. I have spent many hours reading, watching tutorials, experimenting with recipes, and learning about the science behind baking and cooking. What started as a simple way to share my love for food has grown into something even more meaningful. This blog is now my “digital keepsake”, a space where I’m preserving our family’s favorite recipes so my boys can revisit them, recreate them, and one day pass them down to their own families.
But Mom, What Did You Make? It’s not just about food. Here we discuss family life, education, and advocacy. I have 15 years of experience teaching primary grades in a public school setting. During this time, I had the opportunity to teach English language learners, a group that’s especially close to my heart. I was once in their shoes and understand the challenges of learning a new language while adjusting to a new culture. This shared experience has shaped the way I teach, connect, and advocate for my students.
I hold a Bachelor’s in Family and Child Studies with a concentration in Elementary Education, a K–6 Teaching Certification, a Master’s in Urban Education with a concentration in ESL, and a K–12 ESL Certification. I’ve also completed over 30 additional credits in areas like literacy instruction, behavior support, and educational technology. I also spent some time homeschooling my son.
As a mom of children with special needs, I know how difficult it can be to navigate the school system. That is why I decided to utilize this platform also to help other parents feel informed and empowered by offering guidance on 504 Plans, IEPs, and simple, practical ways to support learning at home. Parents are their child’s greatest advocate, and with the right tools, they can make a lasting impact on their child’s educational journey.
This About Me page wouldn’t be complete without acknowledging my husband, my partner in life and in this project. He’s a passionate advocate for growth, both personal and professional, and loves exploring topics like financial freedom, investing, leadership, and building a strong foundation for children and families. He’s an incredible father, my best friend, and the kind of partner who supports me, while also challenging me to keep learning and becoming the best version of myself.
We want this space to reflect both sides of our parenting journey. That’s why we will create a special section of the blog called Dad Talks, where he shares his insights on fatherhood, finances, mindset, and how to build a strong foundation and value system for your family. Our hope is that, regardless of who you are or the stage of parenting you’re in, you’ll find something here to inspire, encourage, and support you.
