Home » About Me
I am a mom, a wife, a former teacher, and an advocate. I created Mom, What Did You Make? to share my family’s favorite Dominican recipes.
The blog’s name is inspired by a question my oldest son, Liam, asked daily after daycare: “Mom, what did you make?” His enthusiasm for home-cooked meals motivated me to keep cooking, even when I was exhausted.
I moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic at age five, and it has always been important to me that my sons remain connected to their heritage. Food helps us preserve our culture at home. My son shares my preferences; given the choice between a hamburger and mangú with eggs, he always chooses mangú.
Cooking has always been my creative outlet. Although I did not attend culinary school, I enjoy exploring both traditional and modern techniques. I have dedicated significant time to reading, watching tutorials, experimenting in the kitchen, and learning the science behind baking and cooking.
What began as a simple way to share my love of food has become much more meaningful. This blog now serves as a digital keepsake, preserving our family’s favorite recipes so my sons can revisit, prepare, and one day share them with their own families.
However, Mom, What Did You Make? is not just about food. We also discuss family life, education, and advocacy. I spent 15 years teaching young children in public schools, working closely with English language learners, a group I care about deeply.
I hold a Bachelor’s in Family and Child Studies with a focus on Elementary Education, a K–6 Teaching Certification, a Master’s in Urban Education with a focus on ESL, and a K–12 ESL Certification. I have also completed over 30 additional credits in areas such as literacy instruction, behavior support, and educational technology. Additionally, I have experience homeschooling my son.
As a parent, I understand how overwhelming the school system can be. That is why I use this platform not only to share recipes but also to help parents feel informed, confident, and empowered.
Here, you will find guidance on topics such as 504 Plans, IEPs, and practical strategies to support your child’s learning and development at home. This includes a variety of resources, such as informative articles, easy-to-use checklists, and helpful templates, to help you find the support you need.
I believe parents are their child’s greatest advocates. With the right knowledge and tools, they can make a lasting difference in their child’s educational journey.
This About Me page would not be complete without acknowledging my husband, my partner in life and in this project. He strongly supports personal and professional growth and enjoys learning about financial freedom, investing, leadership, and building a secure foundation for children and families.
